SUEZ recycling and recovery UK wins national award for best Civic Amenity site
In May 2019, SUEZ recycling and recovery UK won the Civic Amenity of the Year 2019 Award at letsrecycle.com’s 2019 Awards for Excellence for the Woking community recycling centre, which is operated on behalf of Surrey County Council.
The team picked up the award during a glittering ceremony at London’s Landmark Hotel.
Already one of the busiest sites in the county for its modest size, in 2018 the Woking community recycling centre went through some significant changes and challenges, yet still managed to improve performance and smash all targets. The introduction of lean methodologies and critical success factors kept the team focused and engaged to ensure success. The result was record levels of waste being recycled or sold for re-use, all while maintaining the high levels of customer service expected by Surrey residents.
The site receives over 300,000 visits from Woking residents every year and it is regularly chosen for filming the BBC’s Money for Nothing, where items are rescued from the skips and upcycled.
