The team spent the morning helping to transform a garden area, clearing the space, digging out roots, raking the soil and sowing wildflower seeds. They also planted lavender to attract pollinators and installed a bird scarer to help protect the newly seeded area.

The garden already features a bug hotel created by local children who use the library space, and we hope the team’s work will help to encourage new visitors.

“They were GREAT! They cleared the area, dug out roots and raked the soil through. They then scattered the wildflower seed and put up the bird scarer. They also planted some lavender – the bees love it (and the rats don’t).”

This volunteering was supported by Jo Bucknell at Voluntary Support who said:

“Thanks so much for sending the team down to Chertsey Library this morning – they did a phenomenal job. This work gives a big step forward to the garden space and we’re excited to see how the seeds develop (once we finally get some rain!).”
