Surrey transfer stations temporarily closed to trade waste
Like many other businesses, we are currently experiencing a shortage of HGV drivers across the UK which is impacting our operations.
As a result, fewer bulk haulage vehicles are available to collect waste and recycling from our transfer stations. If not managed effectively, this could lead to waste levels on site which exceed our environmental permits and could potentially pose a risk to health and safety.
In order to manage the situation responsibly, we have made the difficult decision to temporarily close the waste transfer stations in Surrey to third party trade waste. This decision will help protect capacity for the waste and recycling collected from the kerbside in Surrey and will help ensure that those collections can continue uninterrupted. We will continue to monitor the situation and will resume normal operations as soon as we are able to do so.
Our priority lies with the residents and households of Surrey and we are doing everything we can to continue to deliver our contractual obligations. We apologise for the inconvenience that this may cause to the third-party companies that use our waste transfer stations.
