Surrey Eco Park, operational update, Friday 20 March

A fire occurred at the Eco Park this morning in a conveyor in the gasification facility’s bunker hall. The site was evacuated and fire service crews attended the incident. There were no injuries, and the fire was declared out around 2pm, with several crews remaining on site to prevent reignition.

The Eco Park’s community recycling centre will remain closed today and is due to re-open to the public tomorrow (Saturday 21 March).

Our team diverted deliveries of food waste and recyclables to other transfer stations within the Surrey network to minimise disruption to household waste and recycling collections taking place today. Deliveries will resume tomorrow.

The gasification facility is shutdown for planned maintenance and will therefore remain closed whilst maintenance is ongoing, and to allow our team to inspect for any fire damage.
