350 Trees Planted by SUEZ in One Day for Shepperton Mini Wood

SUEZ volunteers in partnership with Spelthorne Borough Council planted 350 trees on their ‘Miyawaki tree planting day’ at Littleton recreation ground in Shepperton.

Staff members based at Eco Park made use of the SUEZ A Day A Year To Volunteer (ADAYTV) scheme, a day where people who work at SUEZ have the opportunity to take a paid day each year to volunteer. The SUEZ team worked alongside Spelthorne Borough Council to plant 350 trees in just one day.

Miyawaki tree planting is a technique for creating dense, fast-growing native forests that restore biodiversity by focusing on closely packing native species which mimics natural forest growth. These areas can grow up to 10 times faster than conventional planting.

Arthur Stokhuyzen, climate and energy lead at Spelthorne Borough Council, said ‘It was fantastic to welcome volunteers from SUEZ to Littleton recreation in Shepperton for our Miyawaki tree‑planting day. Their enthusiasm and willingness to get stuck in made a huge difference. The volunteers helped us plant a dense native woodland that will support biodiversity, improve air quality and benefit the local community for years to come. It was really good to see local businesses like SUEZ coming together with Spelthorne Borough Council to give something back to the community and we’re very grateful to everyone from SUEZ who gave their time and energy’

Gareth Swain, Regional Manager at SUEZ said ‘At SUEZ we’re passionate about the planet and environment, so to be able to contribute to a project like this was really valuable, I’m delighted with the contribution our team has made to the local area.’
